At the age of six, B-Leaf started training as a vocalist in Hindustani classical and then the Indian percussion instrument tabla. Later, when he turned ten, he began learning the violin. But it was guitar that empowered him to embrace various styles of music he had grown up with, and gave him the opportunity to sing and play together.
